New Legato Telecommunications Interface Available

Listen announces the availability of the Legato Telecommunications Interface, designed and built by Octave Labs. The Legato interface extends the capabilities of SoundCheck® (and other test platforms) by providing the electrical test circuits needed to establish calls with a wide variety of analog telecommunication devices.

The Legato offers all the functionality needed for testing analog telephones. It supports two talk paths, so it can be configured to negotiate 2-wire, simultaneous 2-wire, and 4-wire connections. With optional support for 4 to 8 wire E&M interfaces it has the ability to establish connections with analog ports on digital systems, such as PBXs, VoIP gateways, and channel banks. Precision reference impedances and feeding bridge to power the phone are standard.  A second feeding bridge and two line simulation banks are available as options for multi-line phone testing. The feeding bridge voltage, current, and resistance can be controlled and voltage / current characteristics of the device under test measured. All bridges and lines are designed to TIA/ETSI specifications.

For high accuracy and efficient control, analog stimulus and measured signals are isolated, conditioned, amplified, and switched as required. A mouth simulator can be driven by a high headroom calibrated power amplifier which is capable of driving mouths with high crest factor signals (such as speech and P.50) from the test platform without clipping. AC mains, audio, and digital isolation are provided allowing the Legato to be located remotely from systems under test, which may reside outside the lab in telecom closets or air-conditioned IT rooms.

The Legato offers full USB control which ensures a seamless interface with SoundCheck, the Legato control software, or other PC-based test platforms, and greatly reduces the manual intervention typically encountered in telecommunications testing. This results in fewer measurement errors, faster regulatory approvals, and reduced time-to-market.

The Legato interface is very flexible, providing connections to external bridges, battery feeds, reference impedances, artificial lines, reference codecs and other test equipment. An external ring generator can be added for ring-out functionality, and an auxiliary port on the front panel allows calls to be established with PBXs and line cards prior to testing.
