Yes, definitely.
The USB connection is used by SoundCheck to initialize DC Connect and get the calibration informations.
So even if you plan to use DCC in analog mode, the USB connection is still needed.

If you want to set a static voltage or current value for DC Connect, the USB control mode is the way to go.
But you want to get a ramp of voltage (or current) out of DCC, then you need to use the analog mode.
When controlling DCC over USB the maximum rate of change is 5 steps per second. In analog mode, you can go up to 500 steps/s.
