SoundCheck Version Currently Using: SoundCheck 8.1
Years Using SoundCheck: 6

Most of the time moving sequences from one version of SoundCheck to another is relatively painless. But occasionally new or changed features in the latest release can alter the way a sequence from an older version functions. Here is a brief(ish) general recommendation for how to port your sequences over. This method works for any version, but attempting to upgrade sequences more than 1 or 2 versions of SoundChek at a time may introduce additional challenges.

1. Export - The first step is to export your sequences from the older version. Do this through File -> Export Seq. This will create a folder containing the sequence file and all the step files it needs to run.

2. Consolidate - Once you've exported all of your sequences you will have a folder for each one. Take the contents of these folders (the sequence and step files) and move them into a single folder. This will make the importing process much easier in the new version.

3. Backup - Save a copy of this consolidated folder in case you need to recover these sequences again in the future.

4. Test and Save - In the newer version of SoundCheck click File -> Open and navigate to your exported sequence folder. Choose one of the sequences to open. Try running the sequence to see if it still works correctly in the new version. Make any necessary edits and then click File -> Save. The sequence is now saved as a newer version (meaning this exported copy will not open in an older version of SoundCheck). Repeat this procedure for all of the sequences in the folder.

5. Import (optional) - You can continue using your sequences from their exported folder, and this will work just fine. However, you may wish to import your sequences. First open a sequence from the SoundCheck directory; any of the example sequences will do. Next click File -> Import Seq. Navigate to your exported sequence directory and click 'Select Current Dir'. SoundCheck will then ask if you would like to save the sequences into the current folder. Either say yes or choose a new location. This will import every sequence contained in that exported folder.

You will likely have some steps in that exported folder with the same names as default steps in the new version. In that case SoundCheck will ask if you would like to overwrite them or not. If you are not concerned with using the example sequences in SoundCheck, go ahead and click Yes to All. Otherwise you may want to be careful about which ones you choose to overwrite, as they may be used by the example sequences, and your older step may differ.

Hopefully this helps you make a smoother transition when upgrading!
