As laptops get old they become replaced.
My new replacement laptop does not have a PCMCIA slot for my trusted VXpocket sound card. In stead it has an Express/54 port.
Can you recommend a sound card for the new laptop? I definitely prefer an "internal" card as it is used mainly on travels. Too many wires between the laptop and sound cards/amplifiers/microphones is a hazzle, although it add to the "alchemists" identity of acouticians.
In my ideal world, the DPA microphone amplifier and the VXPocket car would be integrated in one Express/54 card ;-)

The RME doesn't seem to be answer to my dreams.
The thing is that I want to connect a SCM-2 microphone to my sound connect using as few boxes and cables a possible.
My laptop already has the firewire (and express/54) interfaces. So an option could be an RME-like device that allows me to connect the SCM microphone directly (that is with microdot or lemo connectors) or a DPA-like amplifier with a firewire or express/54 connection. Do you know of such a device?

It connects to your PC via FireWire and has 8 analog inputs and outputs. On the front of the unit, it has 2 mic inputs with built-in preamps with digitally controlled gain. Using DPA's XLR to microdot adapter, you can easliy connect your SCM mic to the FireFace 400.
