Greetings!
Welcome to TALK... the newsletter
from Listen, Inc., leaders in the field of PC-based
electro-acoustic test and measurement. It contains the
lastest news about our products, our company and
useful tips and tricks to help you get more from your
acoustic measurement testing. It is our aim to make
this newsletter interesting and informative. We

#2619.
On display will be the latest release of SoundCheck,
version 5 release 5. Stop by the booth for a
demonstration. Also on show will be hardware products
which facilitate acoustic testing. These include DC
Connect, a USB controlled precision power supply and
current monitor and the SoundConnect microphone
power supply and amplifier.
Steve Temme and Pascal Brunet will be presenting a
paper on Loose Particle Detection using Time-
Frequency Domain Analysis, and Steve Temme is a
panelist in the workshop session 'Perception on
loudspeaker non-liner distortion: an open discussion.'

DC Power Supply and Monitor |
 |
DC Connect is a USB controlled precision DC power
supply and current monitor. It enables high-resolution
dynamic measurements of voltage and current
consumption in portable electronic devices such as
hearing aids, microphones, cell phones, PDAs and other
battery powered electronic devices.
DC Connect is fully computer controlled via a USB port
or via an AC voltage from a soundcard. Used in
conjunction with SoundCheck electro-acoustic
measurement software it enables current or voltage
measurement to be synchronized to an acoustical
source. Since DC Connect can be fully controlled via
the software, it greatly simplifies complex tests such as
dynamic measurement of current consumption in
portable electronic devices.

acoustic training courses on June 16 - 18 in Boston.
The courses will be taught by electroacoustics
consultant John Bareham and acoustics experts at
Listen.
Day 1 covers the fundamentals of electroacoustic
measurements, interpretation of test results and a
hands-on SoundCheck workshop for the novice user.
Days 2 and 3 will cover advanced electroacoustics
including simulated free fields, room acoustics, and
distortion measurements, application-oriented hands-on
workshops an advanced sequence writing. Attendees
can choose to attend the introductory first day, the 2
advanced days or all 3 days.

Mark Dailey, Manufacturing and Support Manager
Question:
How can I calibrate / verify the performance of my
soundcard?
Answer:
We have updated the calibration sequences for
soundcards and posted them on our website sequence
library. The sequences take you step by step through
the calibration process. The resulting calibration
numbers can then be entered into the hardware step of
the test sequence you are using.
We have also created a new SoundCard Performance
evaluation sequence. This sequence will give you
detailed information on the Frequency Response,
Sensitivity, THD, THD+N, Play/Record Delay, Crosstalk,
and Self Noise of your soundcard.
