New Low Cost Complete Transducer Test System from Listen

Listen’s new SoundCheck ONE^TM  transducer test system is a complete test package for measurement of loudspeakers and microphones which offers the speed and accuracy of a high end test system at a cost comparable to the lower-end systems on the market. In addition, it is very simple to use, making it ideal for production line operatives with no test and measurement experience. A Chinese language option further enhances operator understanding.

SoundCheck ONE consists of a simplified version of Listen’s popular SoundCheck® software package, integrated with Listen’s AmpConnect hardware, a sound card, cables and an optional microphone. Simplicity is at the core of its operation. The software is preconfigured for the supplied hardware, and the AmpConnect USB-controlled hardware box contains all the additional equipment necessary for a complete audio test (microphone power supply, impedance box, amplifier, etc.)

Set up is easy and takes less than a minute. Once the soundcard is installed in the computer and SoundCheck loaded, the operator simply needs to connect together the device under test, the AmpConnect box, and the measurement microphone with the supplied color-coded cables, and customize the test using the sequence generator. This simple checkbox interface allows individual tests to be selected, start and stop frequency chosen, and test level and sweep time set. To complete the setup, the reference speaker or microphone is measured by clicking the button in the sequence generator, and limits are selected.

It’s not just set up that is fast – testing is too. SoundCheck ONE carries out a full loudspeaker test (frequency response, sensitivity, THD, Rub & Buzz, loose particles, polarity and impedance) in just one second. This is because SoundCheck ONE uses the same engine as SoundCheck – a product with a 15 year history that is used on thousands of production lines around the world. SoundCheck’s measurement algorithms are designed to meet the needs of high throughput production lines with special attention to speed, reliability and repeatability even in noisy environments. Results can be output as a pass/fail indication on the screen, or written to a text or excel file.

At less than $6000 for a complete system including hardware, SoundCheck ONE is similarly priced to systems with far less sophisticated measurement algorithms. Although the interface is simple and the cost is low, it offers the same test speed, repeatability and reliability as the more expensive full version of SoundCheck.

Unlike other comparably priced systems, should the user require more test flexibility in the future, the software supplied in the SoundCheck ONE package can be upgraded to a full version of SoundCheck, and all the included hardware is fully compatible. This guarantees that even if testing needs expand, any initial investment is not wasted.
