100 Things #45: Measure and Characterize Noise with NoiseCheck

SoundCheck measures all forms of audio, even noise. Listen’s noise measurement solution, NoiseCheck, captures measurement from microphones, accelerometers, and laser vibrometers and offers a full suite of analysis options. It is ideal for measuring devices including fans, motors, pumps, and other electromechanical products.

Most people are familiar with using SoundCheck to measure audio devices, but did you know that it can also be used to measure noise?

NoiseCheck is a cost-effective SoundCheck configuration for measuring noise and vibration of fans, blowers, motors, gears, bearings, pumps and other electromechanical products.

Using either a microphone, accelerometer or laser vibrometer input, it accurately quantifies both the level and frequency of the noise or vibration produced by a device. Simultaneous time and frequency domain analyses calculate both transient and steady-state noise parameters using the real time analyzer, spectrum analyzer and oscilloscope. Comparison to pass/fail limits makes it valuable for end of line tests. As with SoundCheck, test sequences can be configured for automated measurement, or virtual instruments can be used for quick, real-time measurements.

Because NoiseCheck uses the same advanced analysis algorithms and calibrated signal paths as SoundCheck, it offers the same fast, repeatable and reliable measurements and detailed failure mode analysis that you’re used to. Naturally, it’s similarly flexible for large scale use, integrating smoothly as part of an automated production line or an R&D lab with external control, statistical analysis and detailed reporting and writing to databases. Because NoiseCheck does not include stimulus functionality it is feature-limited compared to SoundCheck, and is therefore considerably less expensive.

NoiseCheck is a fast, easy and cost-effective solution for characterizing noise in your products. Contact your Listen sales engineer or rep for more information.
