A new 4 page brochure outlines Listen’s capabilities in automotive audio testing. SoundCheck offers simple, fast and accurate testing of vehicle audio quality, from individual speaker components to complete in-vehicle infotainment and telematics systems. With interfaces to connect via Bluetooth, Lightning, USB and with individual MEMs devices, as well as analog connections, SoundCheck can handle the complexity and demands of testing in today’s vehicles. The measurements that SoundCheck can make include:
- Speaker/system response
- Speaker/panel buzz, squeak and rattle
- Bluetooth audio performance
- Head unit and amplifier response & THD+N
- Microphone/microphone array response
- Active noise cancellation effectiveness
- Spatial reproduction accuracy
In this short 10 minute video, sales engineer Les Quindipan gives a brief overview of the new features and functionality, and demonstrates them in the software.
Listen’s revolutionary audio test amplifier, SC Amp, has been awarded US Patent # 9,386,387. This patent covers Listen’s unique high accuracy single channel impedance measurement method, which used a unique feedback circuit to offer dual channel accuracy using just a single channel. This enables full electrical and audio tests to be carried out simultaneously and with high accuracy using just 2 channels.
Specifically designed for the audio test market, SC Amp also incorporates several other features unique to the needs of audio test and measurement, such as low distortion (THD <0.025%) and a low noise floor (>100dB). Fixed gain eliminates calibration errors as there is no gain knob to be accidentally knocked or tweaked when it is in use. It supports the application of a DC voltage offset to the AC signal for testing transducers under adverse conditions, and features overload/output protection to prevent damage in case of shorting or overload.
Many unnecessary features found in regular audio amplifiers have been eliminated to keep production line operation simple and error-proof. Although it is designed to integrate seamlessly with Listen’s SoundCheck audio test and measurement software, it will also work well with other brands of test system.
Listen president, Steve Temme commented, ‘We are thrilled that the innovative design of this product has been recognized with this patent, and we are confident that this method will be quickly recognized by the marketplace.’
Listen, Inc., is excited to announce the release of SoundCheck Version 15. This release expands the testing capability of SoundCheck with additional external control, calibration, audio mixing and hardware integration, and introduces the first in our redesigned virtual instruments, the multimeter.
The redesigned multimeter now offers two views, a compact ‘meter’ view, or an expanded detailed ‘settings’ view. In ‘meter’ view, a clear, simple level meter is displayed, which changes color to warn of overload or near overload values. Averaging type, weighting type and bandwidth are also shown. In expanded view, 4 different tabs for measurement, averaging, filters and limit setting are visible, and options such as linear/log scale, filtering and weighting options, etc. can be selected. Enhancements to the multimeter’s capabilities include the ability to measure DC voltage in addition to AC voltage so that SoundCheck can be used with a DC coupled interface for making audio electronic measurements, high and low pass filters for removing electrical noise and low frequency background noise, and automatic scaling to adjusts the range of the display based on the signal.
New TCP/IP control functionality makes external control of SoundCheck simpler, yet more powerful, a valuable feature for anyone who needs to control SoundCheck from an external program, for example as part of an overall test plan or factory automation. It allows communication with SoundCheck via any programming language, on any operating system, either locally or through a network, so that a single computer can control multiple SoundCheck systems. It also features a more powerful and expandable command format for interacting with SoundCheck.
Other enhancements include accelerometer calibration and force measurement to enable testing of linear motors such as those used in haptic devices, an improved plot legend with choice of placement, faster setup with a new ‘auto-mode’ in the hardware editor, better control of Bluetooth interfaces and an improved audio mixer.

Listen is excited to announce the release of SoundCheck 14.1 for Mac. Offering similar functionality* to the Windows version of SoundCheck 14, this is the first large-scale commercial audio test software to run natively on a Mac. SoundCheck is a powerful software package which controls and communicates with your audio measurement hardware and contains all the stimuli, algorithms and functionality to develop and run complete audio tests on loudspeakers, headphones, microphones, smartphones, tablets, hearing aids and more.
SoundCheck 14.1 for Mac offers seamless integration with Listen’s expanding line of hardware products including AmpConnect, DC Connect, SoundConnect 2 and AudioConnect, making the initial system setup quick and easy, even for novice users and non-technical personnel. All Listen hardware products, as well as the Portland Tool & Die BTC-4148 Bluetooth interface can now be directly controlled from within the software, enabling them to be changed as part of a sequence.
Users of previous PC-based versions of SoundCheck can upgrade these to the Mac version for an additional fee. Contact firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
* Note that there are some minor differences between the Mac version and the Windows version due to variations in the development environment, particularly surrounding data export functionality. Please contact your sales engineer for more information.
