Did you know that in SoundCheck, you can dynamically control the stimulus via a message prompt within a sequence? This is useful for anyone who wants to enter test stimulus levels on the fly as a test sequence is run – for example, getting test results from your device under low level versus high level conditions.
Let me show you how this works. During a sequence, SoundCheck can prompt the operator to enter a stimulus level via a Message Step, and that value is saved to SoundCheck’s memory list.
In the stimulus step, it’s normal to define the test stimulus level and frequency range when using a stepped sine sweep stimulus, but here’s the clever part. If you *right click* on the numerical stimulus level value, SoundCheck reveals the option to use a “Memory List Selection”. Here, you can choose the stimulus level that was just entered from the previous message step or any other stored value.
One example where this might be useful is for benchmarking headphones – different stimulus levels might be necessary to reach the target level at the ear reference position.
This useful technique enables adjustment of stimulus levels on the fly, with or without operator input. It’s one of the most useful but less-obvious features that highlight SoundCheck’s vast flexibility!
