Video Script: Customized Units for Specific Applications

Did you know that in Soundcheck, you can create your own custom units? Although SoundCheck contains many default units for sound, electrical and vibration measurements, you can also customize them for a specific application.

For example, let’s say you want to use a laser vibrometer that measures displacement to measure loudspeaker cone excursion. Simply go into the Calibration Editor, Add a new Input Calibrated Device, then under Sensitivity, click on the Unit button and enter your new unit and dB reference, e.g. meters and dB Ref: 1. Your multimeter and y-axis on your graphs will now read displacement in meters.

Units can also be edited in the sequence in either the analysis or post-processing step by selecting the “Unit” button.

The new units chosen are applied to  the data generated by that step, and preserved for the remainder of the sequence run.

Similarly, custom units can also be applied to curves in the Memory List items by right-clicking and selecting units.For example, if you want to convert dBSPL to dBPa, just change your dB Ref from 20uPa to 1Pa.

This flexibility lets you easily customize SoundCheck for your specific application!
