Perfect for production environment, metadata can now be used to tag measurement data with system information, sequence run information, operator name, and environmental information. R&D applications can now use metadata to store details like DUT identification number, operator subject rating, and test modifications.

SoundCheck has always saved data to a variety of formats and databases, but did you know that you can now save metadata including curves, values, results and waveforms to a single TDMS file? This simplifies data collection and documentation in both R&D and production applications.
Metadata includes system data such as sequence name, date and time stamp and user-defined fields such as temperature, humidity, microphone distance, test configuration and anything else you desire. Of course any test data available in the memory list such as results, waveforms and more is included. Both standard and custom fields can be saved.
In a production environment you might want to store environmental information, test configuration and batch number as well as system data such as the test sequence used and operator name along with your results. SoundCheck saves metadata using TDMS, National Instruments’ fast binary format, to minimize read and write times. This means that saving all this additional data won’t slow down your sequence.
In an R&D environment, you can include notes about the product under test as you iterate a design, details about the test setup, or even rotation angle when making polar plots. You can even use a message step in a sequence to collect user-input which is also saved in the metadata file. For example, you might ask the user to manually enter the subjective sound quality of the product under test or what modifications were made to that particular prototype
TDMS data can be viewed or recalled in SoundCheck, and also opened in other applications such as Microsoft Excel and MATLAB using a plug-in. How would you use metadata? Let us know in the comments!
