Standardized Automotive Audio Testing Seminar
Standardized automotive audio testing ensures repeatable measurements of in-car audio. This allows comparisons, improves interpretation of results, and makes system-level specifications more meaningful, facilitating alignment between vehicle manufacturers (OEMs) and Tier 1 suppliers.
In this 40 minute seminar, Steve Temme presents the current status of standardized automotive audio measurements. He shares the work of the AES TC-AA committee (of which he is a member), outlining their recently-published white paper on automotive measurements. He discusses the test configuration – demonstrating with a real car – and explains the hardware setup, test signals, and measurement specifics for frequency response, impulsive distortion and Max SPL. He goes beyond the TC-AA recommended measurements to also demonstrate THD, IM distortion, and spectral uniformity and explains how they help to more fully characterize the performance of an in-car audio system.
Automotive measurement demonstrations include
